New Year's in Paradise
It was a crazy New Year's, let me tell you, the Filipinos know how to get crazy. Which is fun to watch, but not the best environment for missionary work. We still did pretty good this week. I'll give you the rundown.
Tuesday was New Year Year's Eve which was a crazy day. We had a District council that morning because there was an emergency mission leaders meeting. So we got informed on some huge changes that are happening in the mission. Our entire District was shocked, but nevertheless complied. Afterwards we went to Sn. Felipe which is at the end of our area. Despite New Year's we were able to teach some super cool people. We then picked up the other Elders and enjoyed a good hearty dinner at Bishop's, which was super fun. We didn't do anything for midnight because we went to bed at 10 (#exactlyobedient) but we were woken up by the insane fireworks. It sounded like world war 3, and we couldn't get back to sleep. So the next morning was super rough, but it was cool to hear the Philippines enjoys this holiday.
For the first day of the year, some crazy things happened. We went to work as usual, but got invited to eat at a LA's house. So we went and ate food that had been sitting out for like 2 days. Just from the smell of it you could tell it had gone bad. But the ant's improved the flavor a bit. But spaghetti is not supposed to be sour. We ate all of it though, and got oofed later because. Not a fun next day. But at night we got to eat at another members, who cooked the most delicious food I've ever tasted. So it was a good New Years.
On Friday me and Elder Shepherd decided to check out this new area we've never been to before. It's kinda far out so we weren't sure what to expect. We came over the crest of this mountain though and just ran into the most beautiful beach we have ever seen in our lives. So we spent the entire day walking along the beach. Teaching People about the gospel, with the wind in our hear, and the sound of crashing waves in the background. It was Awesome! We also found a full sized Sea turtle. We were walking and I thought it was just a massive rock, and then Elder Shepherd was like, "HOLY COW! that's a sea turtle!" We got some cool pictures from that.
As far as work goes, we got a lot of opportunities to teach the people we needed to teach this week, and it was a super good work week. We had some new people come to church yesterday so that was super cool. So were looking forward to helping them again later this week. The work is picking up, and were finally getting on good terms with our ward. This New Years helped with that. It was a good week.
All is Well
Elder Bills
1. The dead Sea Turtle 2. Paradise 3. We found a boat 4. We also bought shakes.
So, we talked to Isaac and he typed back. His mic and camera were not working, so he saw and heard us but we just messaged back and forth with him for a short time.
He said they had a successful week. Lots of teaching opportunities and alot of people to church on Sunday, too. He sounded positive. We asked if he and Elder Shepherd were just going to serve the rest of his mission together since they will have already been together 3 transfers (18 weeks = 4 1/2 months). He said they had just talked about that and both agreed that that would be awesome. They really like serving together.
We are happy to see some photos of what his area looks like and that they have ice cream in the Philippines, too. :) Sounds like they eat a lot, too. I guess that is how most of us celebrate the holidays, right? Eating!
He said that sea turtle was as big as a kitchen table.
We are now under 8 months to go. He is loving the area and feels like things are improving with the ward in Daet. He feels like his time is just running out and it's all going too, too fast.
It was a short "call" last night since Isaac had to type everything out, so that's all for this week.
