#GenCon Part 2

Part 3 is going to be crazy. We all (the missionaries) have discussed it, and think either The Second Coming is going to happen or sister missions are getting extended to two years. Not sure why the latter was put as one of the final conclusions, but my goodness that was a good conference! This is coming a week after it actually aired, but here in the Philippines we see it the week after due to time conflicts. But it was amazing! So much emphasis on Jesus Christ, and the higher and holier way of coming unto him. Because a building won't save us, but Jesus Christ can.

A couple of my favorites was Jeffrey R. Holland (I'm addicted to his BYU devotional talks), Elder Uchtdorf, and Reuben V. Alliaud. Amazing talks. Will be cycling through those for the next couple of months.

Not only that but finally a temple was announced in Bentonville, Arkansas! This is the blessing my family has been praying for years. We may not live in Arkansas, but our hearts will always be a part of that great state. We are so excited to hear of a house of God being built in the land that some in our family call Home. We cannot wait to be there in the front rows for it's dedication.

The rest of General Conference and all of the changes and announcements were also awesome. The work is truly hastening, and the we are commanded to gather and prepare. Excited to see what else will come. Really loved all of the message given. And the emphasis on the Savior, because that's who it's truly about.

The rest of this week was mostly drowned out with the hustle and bustle of General Conference. This week was really busy again. We're continuing to work on building up the area, and trying to get to know the people and members. We don't have a ton of info that was left behind, like area boundaries, recent converts, members, because when I got here, there was no area book. Or teaching pool. So, starting from scratch! But hey, just means we have to talk to everyone! It's tiring but at least it's worth it. This next week is going to be really busy.

My trainee is still alive. He's making it, like we all have had to do, but just the other day he told me, "I kinda like rice." So there's progress. He's done well though, fast learner, humble guy, and solid testimony. Already about 20 steps ahead of me when I entered into the mission. So now we just got to work on that obstacle called Tagalog. It will get there though.

Our one PBD now is doing amazing though. I shared a story with my parents earlier about him. He's doing amazing and overcomes hurdles like it's nothing. We have been blessed to be able to teach him.

Last night, Isaac gave us his recap of Gen Conf. It's so funny to listen to this young man; you'd think that we never taught him the Gospel before he left for his mission. He kept saying how everything is so new and he's learning things he's never heard before. He's reading scripture he's never read before (not sure how he graduated seminary, then :) ). But, it's all good. He's happy and excited about the work. He likes training. He likes having a companion who likes and wants to work (not sure if his greenie knows he can do anything differently though).

Brother Harris who they are teaching is a golden contact (at least, for Isaac, he is). When Isaac arrived in Daet 8 weeks ago, his companion at the time was ready to drop Br. Harris, but Br. Harris asked them why they gave him a Book of Mormon. Isaac said he about came out of his chair, so excited to explain that the Book of Mormon is what brings us to Christ. Since Isaac was so amped about Br. Harris' question, Br. Harris stuck with it and now has a baptism date on 10/26. He as given up cigarettes and alcohol. He is paying tithing. He just wants to do everything Jesus wants him to do.

Isaac has hit his 13-month mark and is just loving the work. He is beyond thrilled to be where he is, doing what he is doing and loves having a companion that works with him.

All really is well.
