Wearing Out Floors...
Reference to a past experience: This week was interesting to say the least. It all started out on Monday when after a appointment, me and my companion had a disagreement. So we ended up having three exchanges this last week.
Once again, it was great to talk to Isaac this past Sunday (1 September). The way transfers will work out is that he will come home Sept 2, 2020, so he on the downhill slope. His true year mark is Sept 12 (just nine days away). We have been told that the 2nd year goes much faster. That is a good news.
Isaac is learning to be meek, humble and submissive. It was kinda a poke at his pride to be junior companion after having just been district leader for one transfer, so he's learning to listen to his companion and let him lead even when he doesn't necessarily agree with him all the time. His companion, Elder De Jesus (in the first photo on the left) will go home at the end of this transfer. Isaac is learning to get along with people that are hard to get along with. :) We told him that is a lifelong lesson and pursuit and that it doesn't end when the nametag comes off.
We did enjoy hearing Isaac's urgency. He kept saying, "I ONLY HAVE ONE YEAR LEFT. THERE IS TOO MUCH WORK TO DO TO BE WASTING TIME." So, at least, he has zeal.
They are living with the ZLs right now, too. Isaac likes that. Says it's fun to be with three other missionaries. He LOVES Daet. Loves the people. Doesn't use his dialect from Iriga at all. It's just straight Tagalog now.
Sad news this morning as Sister Kirk messaged the families of the missionaries to say her husband, Pres. Brad Kirk, suffered a stroke and brain bleed on Monday at 3:30am. Their son is flying to the Philippines to be with his mom and to arrange for their husband/father to be taken off the ventilator today (Wednesday the 3rd). They will pack up the Kirks' things and fly home to California where there will be a funeral held for President Kirk later this week or early next week.
In the meantime, Elder Wakolo from the Philippines Area Presidency will take the reigns of the Naga mission until a regular full-time mission president is called and trained.
Isaac really liked President and Sister Kirk and will be sad to see them go. We are surprised at how positive Sister Kirk was in the message she sent. But, what else can you do, right? He lived a good life and died as a missionary!!! What better way to go.
This first was with Elder Fernandez, our zone leader, which was actually a planned a exchange. We worked with them in their area. It was super cool, I learned a lot about addressing investigators concerns from Elder Fernandez. He also has crazy cool scripture verses.
The next day we went on exchanges with the San Vincente Elders (another area in our zone) while the ZL's had exchanges with the AP's. But I got to work here in Daet with Elder Pascual the trainee of Elder Strong (my MTC companion). Since I was still super new to the area, we just started knocking on every door we could find. Talked to and taught quite a bit of people. It was cool, but left us very tired at the end of the day. Elder Pascual is super cool and hardworking though.
We then the next day had a zone council, where we set goals and learned some new rules set in place that made missionary work 10x harder, but it's ok, cause there inspired from God. We had exchanges again though, this time with Elder Fernandez and Elder Pascual. Which was weird. Trios kinda make everything just a little bit harder. It was a fun experince though. And it was just for a short time as well.
We woke up the next morning though and had a lengthy conversation with our ZL's which we attempted to fix this situation. Which we did, so we were able to get back to work in our area again. So we spent the next two day teaching people in our are again. One of them came to church this last Sunday, so we actually has some progress. So not all hope was lost. But hopefully we can do better this next week.
All is Well
